Yesterday, 6 February, the 2024 Numismatic Collection of the Italian Republic, issued by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and minted by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato (IPZS), was presented .

The event, held in the MEF’s Sala Ciampi, was moderated by Mara Venier. Speakers included the Minister of Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti, the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, the Commander General of the Guardia di Finanza, Andrea De Gennaro, and the top management of the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato. Also present at the event was the Director General of the Economy, Marcello Sala, who recently headed the newly established Department of the Economy, which coordinates the production of numismatic coins.

There are many new additions for 2024: from the coin dedicated to Vasco Rossi’s song “Albachiara”, the first in the “Italian Songs” series, a “disco-coin” bearing the lyrics and the iconic verse about a girl “walking down the street eating an apple”, to those celebrating the 250th anniversary of the foundation of the Guardia di Finanza corps and the 100th anniversary of the first radio broadcast.

As a tribute to the only Italian woman to have received the Nobel Prize in Medicine, there is a coin dedicated to the scientist Rita Levi Montalcini.

To celebrate entrepreneurial excellence, there is a tribute to the history of Italian motorcycling, consisting of 3 silver coins. This journey, starting from the majesty of the historic Ducati factory in Borgo Panigale inaugurated in 1926, tells the story of the Bolognese company’s iconic models.

Dedicated to the value of sport, the first coin with an elliptical shape celebrates the “European Athletics Championships Rome 2024”, recalling the athlete Pietro Mennea, a world record setter nicknamed “the arrow of the south”. 

The 2024 Numismatic Collection is a tale of the history of our country where the main events and national anniversaries, the great names and beauties of art and literature, the excellence of Made in Italy in both business and food, sports, ancient and recent history, and the environment are represented and celebrated each year through the issue of dedicated coins, attracting the interest and curiosity not only of collectors, but also of many passionate citizens.
